Nambooze was first arrested on June 13, 2018 for alleged offensive communication. Nambooze's arrest was ordered by the director of Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Grace Akullo after comments she made on the assassination of former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga on June 8, 2018.

Nambooze was rearrested on June 14, 2018 after President Yoweri Museveni's criticised Police for giving bond to people accused of serious crimes like murder. Nambooze stands accused of offensive communication because she claimed that while she was sorry for the Arua MP's shooting death, he was not an innocent victim as some eulogies tried to portray him.

At events to remember Abiriga and during his burial, President Museveni accused opponents of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) of killing NRM followers including the fallen MP.

Nambooze's lawyer and Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago says the MP will be discharged from Kiruddu hospital and transferred to her private doctor with a practice in Bugolobi. After examination and approval, Nambooze will then be flown to India for further treatment for her chronic back medical condition.
