Five FDC leaders in common nuisance case granted bail

Five of the 14 Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) members from the Katonga faction who were arrested on Monday have been granted bail.

Buganda Road Chief Magistrate, Ronald Kayizzi released  Kaija Harold, MPs Kamara Nicholas, Ssemujju Nganda, Nangozi Faridah, and Nyanjura Doreen on a non-cash bail.

The group of 14 members including Ssemujju Nganda, Harold Kaija,  Wahab Musinguzi, a lawyer; Eric Wasswa Kawesa, a legal assistant; Phionah Kabayiza and Zalikah Mutesi, both businesswomen; Gilbert Nayebare, a hawker; Innocent Turyahikayo Ngabo, a sales agent; Beston Mutambi, a student; Roland Kaginda Mugume; Faridah Nangozi; and I.T Ikamateneti, a farmer were arrested for protesting against the arrest of 36 colleagues in Kenya.

They have since been charged with terrorism and remanded to Luzira.

On Monday, the 14 were charged with being a common nuisance for  engaging in unlawful activities by being rowdy and blocking walkways, thereby obstructing and inconveniencing the public along Katonga Road in Kampala.

They denied the charges.
