Former leaders of the Luweero District Council, led by Al-Hajj Abdul Nadduli, the former LC5 Chairperson, have called on the current leadership to emulate the late Prof Edward Khiddu Makubuya by prioritizing the development of the district and the country.
This plea was made during a special council session held to pay tribute to Prof Makubuya, who was a former district councillor representing Makulubita Sub-county and a former Katikamu South MP.
Nadduli, in his remarks, emphasized that Uganda's development has been hindered by leaders who focus on personal gain rather than the welfare of the people they represent.
He highlighted that today's leaders are more concerned with money, often neglecting the needs of the locals.
"Most of the leaders we have today are money-minded, and they only listen to people with money. They have completely forgotten about the locals they represent," Nadduli said.
He also expressed concern that this greed has led to divisions within political parties, creating confusion among voters.
"Today, we have two FDCs, Katonga and Najjanankumbi, and some NUP members are also talking about forming a new party, which is heavily confusing voters about where to go," Nadduli added.

Luweero LC5 Chairperson Erasto Kibirango highlighted the importance of paying tribute to the late Prof Makubuya, noting his contributions to justice, law and order, education, health, and other areas of development in the district.
Kibirango called on the government to recognize individuals like Dr. Makubuya, who dedicated their lives to serving the nation.
"The government should reward people like Makubuya, who sacrificed their lives to serve this country. From 1996 to 2016, he served NRM as well as the president. What have we, the people of Luweero who gave birth to him, received in return?" Kibirango questioned.
As a gesture of appreciation, Kibirango announced that the district would name a ward in a health center in Makulubita after the late Makubuya, as well as a road in his honor.
Former Luweero District LC5 Chairperson Ronald Ndawula also praised Makubuya for his selfless service, noting that he served without expecting financial rewards, which inspired many.
Resident District Commissioner Richard Bwabye Ntulume commended the late Makubuya for his boldness and honesty during his time in active politics, urging current leaders to follow Makubuya's example and be truthful to the people they represent.
Other leaders in attendance echoed similar sentiments, remembering the late Prof Makubuya as a hardworking and selfless leader who prioritized unity among leaders.
Prof. Edward Khiddu Makubuya passed away on Sunday night after a long battle with illness. He will be laid to rest tomorrow at his ancestral home in Kalasa-Katiiti, Makulubita Sub-County in Luwero District.
