December often announces itself when nights blur into each other and days lose their names. In Kampala, the festive season is unmistakable, from band nights and themed parties to high-spending gatherings that light up the city.

That celebratory spirit defined the one-year anniversary of Bugolobi hangout 1420, held on Thursday night.

The red carpet told its own story. High heels, sundresses, short shorts, shades, and bouncy wigs flooded the entrance, with fashion choices boldly defying the weather and the hour.

Revellers arrived ready to turn up, seemingly unconcerned by the economy, fully focused on the night’s celebrations.

Over the past year, 1420 Resto Bar has built a reputation as a premium destination, winning over partygoers with themed experiences, fine dining, and standout music moments.

For its anniversary, the venue partnered with Don Julio to curate a night where fashion met electrifying sound, courtesy of South African showstopper Dlala Thukzin.

No celebration of this scale would be complete without photo moments. Guests prioritized Instagram and Snapchat, while others went live on TikTok. Yet what stood out most was the immediate rush to the cocktail bar. After updating their socials, many headed straight for a drink.

It was clear that Kampala’s nightlife crowd has grown increasingly knowledgeable about tequila, evident in how confidently guests described and ordered their cocktails.

“There is a growing tequila culture in Uganda, and Don Julio is proud to be at the forefront of it all,” said Judie Nandekya, Senior Brand Manager for Tequila and Rum, East Africa.

“Don Julio is all about milestone moments, and celebrating 1420 at one year is the perfect occasion to raise a glass of the finest tequila.”

While the red carpet buzzed with energy, the real magic unfolded on the dancefloor. Celebrities danced side by side with fans, blurring the lines between spotlight and crowd. Celebrated DJs such as Alisha, Etania, also known as The Life of the Party, and Kamali mingled freely, soaking in the moment without restraint.

From DJ Ssese to DJ Vanss, the night followed an Afro-House and dancehall rhythm, with tracks ranging from Beenie Man’s Dude and Elephant Man’s Pon Da River to Siza’s Abantu, often mistaken by many Ugandans for Amapiano.

Etania took the crowd on a sonic journey to South Africa even before Dlala Thukzin stepped on stage. Earlier, DJ Alisha had unleashed the audience’s inner hip-hop heads, with the crowd lip-syncing to favourites like Rick Ross’ John, Rihanna’s Bitch Better Have My Money, and Chris Brown’s Ayo.

At exactly 12:30 a.m., Dlala Thukzin took to the decks, instantly transforming the venue. For a moment, it felt as though 1420 had relocated to Johannesburg.

As Ama Gear dropped, phones shot into the air, voices sang along, and dance moves grew more intense.

His set was energetic, interactive, and perfectly tuned to the crowd, proof that he knew his audience just as well as they knew him.

As dawn approached and the final tracks faded, the 1420 at One celebration firmly cemented its status as a key player in Kampala’s nightlife scene.

Guests left happily exhausted, carrying memories of great music, premium Don Julio cocktails, and an atmosphere that refused to dim until morning.
