The second occupant in the fuel truck which was involved in an accident and caught fire on Saturday has died .
The accident happened at Kyanamira trading centre in Kabale district when a fuel tanker registration number UAQ 912N/ SSD 351Y Nissan semi-trailer moving from Mbarara side towards Kabale town overturned after the driver lost control due to brake failure and burst into flames.
A 20- year old Kenyan national who was a turn boy was burnt beyond recognition during the accident.
The driver of the truck, Geoffrey Onyango, 34 also Kenyan sustained severe injuries and was rushed to hospital.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the driver has also passed on after being hospitalized for three days.
“The police in Kabale have been reliably been informed that the second victim who was the driver of M/vehicle UAQ 912N/ SSD 351Y Nissan semi-trailer fuel tank one Onyango Geoffrey a Kenyan by nationality and resident of Eldoret in Kenya has passed on from Kenya where he had been evacuated for treatment,” Maate said.
He explained that following the accident, the driver ran out blazing with fire while efforts to trace for the turn boy proved futile.
It was after the fire was put out that his body was discovered burnt beyond recognition.
Maate said the remains of the turn man are still at Kabale hospital mortuary.
