Police in Rukungiri have arrested a security guard over the shooting dead a 22-year-old man.
The suspect, attached to Millennium Security Company, shot and killed Kenneth Masanyu, a resident of Kyobugombe cell, Kamahuri parish Rugarama North Sub-county in Ntugamo District, police said.
Police say the incident occurred at around 10pm at Rugoma cell.
According to police, the deceased was visiting an uncle Bitomwe Charles but on his way, wandered into a banana plantation owned by one Bitama Feredansi where he ended up near the compound of Kazaire Julius guarded by Millennium Security company personnel.
When the security guard, Nicholas Ainembabazi instructed him to sit down, Masanyu remained standing which prompted the guard to fire bullets at him.
The kigezi sub-region police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident saying that Rukungiri central police station was alerted by the areas manager of Millennium security company, Eria Tumesigye.
He added that the crime scene was visited, examined and documented with statements recorded from eye witnesses.
“The suspect has been arrested for questioning whereas the body of the deceased has been transported to Rwakabengo HCII mortuary for postmortem examination,"Maate said.
