Police in Rubirizi District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 50-year-old man following a violent disagreement over how meat was being shared, with the suspect now on the run.

Police in Rubirizi District are investigating a suspected murder incident in which a 50-year-old man was allegedly killed following a disagreement over meat sharing.

The deceased has been identified as Joachim Tumwebaze, a resident of Mubanda D Village in Ryeru Sub-county, Rubirizi District.

According to the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson Apollo Tayebwa, the incident occurred on Wednesday night at around 9pm after a dispute escalated between the deceased and the suspect over meat sharing.

“The tragic incident occured on May 28, 2026 at around 9:00 pm allegedly after the said Tumwebaze was involved in a serious disagreement with the suspected killer over meat sharing. The suspect fled the scene before the deceased was rushed to Rubirizi medical center for medical attention where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” Tayebwa said.

Police said officers responded to the scene, documented evidence, and began investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

“The deceased's body was conveyed to Rugazi Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death,” Tayebwa added.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect fled the scene and is currently on the run. Police have appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could lead to his arrest.

“As investigations are still ongoing, we urge anyone with information regarding this matter and the whereabouts of the killer to report to the nearest police station to enable quick apprehension of the suspect,” Tayebwa noted.

Police condemned the incident and vowed to ensure the suspect is brought to justice, extending condolences to the bereaved family.

“We strongly condemn acts of lawlessness and we assure the general public that the perpetrator must be brought to justice,” Tayebwa said.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the deceased's soul to rest in eternal peace,” he added.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing.
