Kamuli Police have arrested a 21-year-old man over allegations of aggravated defilement and child trafficking involving a three-year-old girl. The incident occurred at Bulunga Village, Butansi Sub-county, Kamuli District.
According to Samson Lubega, the Busoga North Region Police spokesperson, the case reportedly took place on October 13, around 2pm.
The complainant allegedly heard distress sounds coming from the suspect’s home and, upon checking, found the man in suspicious circumstances with the child.
The matter was promptly reported to local authorities and referred to Kamuli Police Station for investigation.
The suspect is currently detained at Kamuli Central Police Station.
Medical examinations have been conducted on both the victim and the suspect, while relevant evidence, including forensic samples such as vaginal swabs and the suspect’s clothing, has been collected for analysis at the Directorate of Government Analytical Laboratory (DGAL).
Police condemned the act, calling it a grave violation of children’s rights and a threat to community safety.
“The Police strongly condemn such acts of sexual violence against children. A thorough investigation is underway, and the suspect will be charged in court upon completion of inquiries,” Lubega said.
He also urged parents, guardians, and community members to remain vigilant and report any cases of child abuse or exploitation to the nearest police station or community liaison officer.
“Protecting children is a shared responsibility. We appeal to all Ugandans to help prevent such heinous crimes by reporting them immediately,” he added.
