BREAKING: Former KCCA Bosses Kisaka, Luyimbazi and Okello Remanded
The van carrying the trio leaves Kibuli

Former Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Dorothy Kisaka and her deputy Eng. David Luyimbazi, as well as ex director of public health Daniel Okello are to spend at least Wednesday night in police cells as the stench of Kiteezi landfill garbage hits them harder.

The trio was on Wednesday afternoon booked into Nateete Police Station after hours of grilling by the Criminal Investigations Directorate in Kibuli.

"They appeared at CID headquarters today and engaged with our team. Arising from the ongoing prosecution-led investigations, the three former officials of KCCA have been detained and will be arraigned before courts of law," Police Spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said .

The investigation are on the orders of President Museveni, who in his dismissal of the trio from office last month ordered CID and other crime management agencies to "thoroughly investigate the matter further, focusing on the angle of criminal negligence associated with this distressing event".

Thirty-two people were killed and scores injured when tonnes of garbage collapsed and buried several homes in Lusanja, Kitetika, and Kiteezi villages on August 11.

In the wake of the tragedy, officials traded blames, with Ms Kisaka taking the flak for apparently ignoring dire reports that the landfill posed imminent danger to people living in the vicinity.

During the search and recovery of bodies from the stench-filled rubble, Police found remains of toddlers, children, women.

Just like several government officials who have straight from Police cells been produced to court and later remanded to Luzira, the three former top KCCA officials are expected to follow the same route.
