During the 2024 Heroes in Health Awards (HIHA), held under the theme “Health Workforce Financing to Achieve Universal Health Coverage,” Next Media’s Deputy Group CEO, Joe Kigozi, highlighted the media’s crucial role in transforming public perceptions about healthcare. Speaking at the gala, where NBS TV was recognized for its steadfast partnership and exceptional contributions, Kigozi emphasized the station’s commitment to driving meaningful change.

"You cannot transform society if your focus is only on political or sports discourse while neglecting critical sectors like health," Kigozi stated. "At NBS, we made a bold decision to prioritize health stories. Through investigative journalism and impactful programming, we aim to bring critical health issues to the forefront."

One recent such effort is the NBS Investigates report on “quack doctors,” which uncovered the dangers posed by unlicensed medical practitioners. This exposé shed light on the urgent need for stricter regulation and support for the medical profession. It not only educated the public but also sparked critical conversations among policymakers, reinforcing the need for collective action to strengthen Uganda’s healthcare system.
