Arua hospital ambulance woes: thefts and accidents raise concerns

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health, has disclosed a troubling situation in Arua Hospital.

“All three ambulances recently assigned to the hospital have faced theft or road accidents, leaving the government uncertain about how to address the recurring problem,” Aceng notes

Dr. Aceng has expressed dismay over the situation, revealing that every ambulance sent to Arua ends up either stolen or in an accident. Specific instances include one ambulance being stolen, another involved in a road crash in October last year, and a replacement provided by UNHCR facing an accident this January.

The repetitive incidents have created a challenge for the government in ensuring the availability of functional ambulances for the West Nile region. Dr. Aceng stressed the need for serious discussions with leaders from the area to find a sustainable solution.

The issues faced by Arua Hospital not only result in the loss of vital resources but also pose a potential threat to emergency medical services for the community.
