Ugandan security has called for calm and vigilance among citizens and visitors in the wake of terror threats.
In a public alert on Tuesday, security said it had received intelligence information of ADF members who have entered into the country with an aim of causing havoc.
“Information from intelligence agencies indicates that there are some ADF Terrorists who have infiltrated into our city/country with intentions to attack particular targets using I E Ds,” the alert said in part.
“We therefore ask the public to be vigilant and report any strange/suspicious characters to security/police.”
Security however urged members of the public and security personnel to ensure proper screening of all entry points to all big public places like malls, markets, churches and bars among others
“Security agencies assure the public that we are working hard to ensure that the terrorists are identified, apprehended or neutralized in order to save lives and property of the people.”
ADF terrorist group has in the past been blamed for a number of attacks on Uganda, including the November, 2021 double blasts at the Central Police Station and along Parliamentary Avenue in Kampala.
On November, 16, 2021, suicide bombers detonated two explosives targeting the Central Police Station and along Parliamentary Avenue killing over five people including police officers whereas several others were left critically injured.
Following the attacks, Islamic State(IS) claimed that three suicide bombers had taken part in the twin blasts, adding that this was a punishment to Uganda for participating in the war against the terrorist group in Central Africa.
The United States recently officially linked IS to Allied Democratic Forces terrorist group operating in eastern DRC.
This was after ADF swore allegiance to IS and has since changed name to Islamic State in Central Africa Province (ISCAP).
Uganda has hit ADF from its own backyard inside the Democratic Republic of Congo where scores of fighters and their commanders have been either killed or captured alive while several abductees have been freed.
The joint operation code named Shuja between UPDF and the Congolese army has seen several ADF fighters flee their bases after being overrun.
Back home, in Uganda, security has also carried out several operations targeting ADF cells within the country where a number of their members have either being put out of action or arrested and several catches of weapons seized.
Security says these operations both within and outside Uganda will continue.
