Mubende — The territorial police in Mubende District are holding a man accused of forgery and uttering false documents during the ongoing parliamentary nomination exercise at the Electoral Commission offices.
The suspect, identified as Peter Kyagera, 36, a resident of Bubanda Village in Mubende District, was arrested on October 23, 2025, at around 4m after he allegedly presented a forged payment receipt while seeking nomination as a National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary candidate.
According to preliminary police findings, Kyagera presented a general payment receipt purportedly in his name.
However, when Electoral Commission officials verified the details, they discovered that the same receipt number had already been issued to and paid for by another individual.
The Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was immediately detained at Mubende Central Police Station to assist with ongoing investigations.
“Our investigations so far indicate that the suspect knowingly presented a falsified payment receipt to the Electoral Commission during his nomination process,” SP Kawala said.
“The exhibit has been recovered and attached as evidence as inquiries continue.”
She added that police are working closely with the Electoral Commission to verify the authenticity of other documents submitted during the nomination process.
“We want to remind all aspiring candidates to follow due process and avoid engaging in acts of forgery, as the law will take its full course,” she warned.
Kyagera remains in custody as investigations continue to establish how he obtained the falsified document and whether other individuals were involved in the act.
