Mafabi Promises Better Housing and Resource Benefits for Karamoja

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nandala Mafabi has promised to improve housing for the Karamojong if elected president, saying it is unacceptable that communities in the mineral-rich region continue to live in mud and wattle houses while investors exploit local resources.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Nakapelimoru Sub-county, Kotido District, Mafabi said Karamoja’s wealth in raw materials — including those used in cement production — should be used to uplift local living standards, not enrich outsiders.

“Our people in Karamoja live in poor conditions while investors steal the raw materials for cement from right under their feet. When elected, I will ensure Karamoja’s resources benefit Karamoja’s people,” Mafabi told supporters.

The FDC flag bearer also criticized the government for the poor state of health services in the region, accusing corrupt officials of mismanaging public funds meant for hospitals and health centres.

“The reason health centres have no medicine is simple — corruption. Money for drugs is stolen by government officials while ordinary citizens suffer,” he said.

Mafabi urged residents to vote for a leader who does not tolerate corruption, promising to bring accountability and transparency once in office.

“I am not here to make empty promises. I am here to fix the economy and put money in people’s pockets,” he added, echoing his campaign slogan.

After addressing supporters in Kotido, Mafabi proceeded to Kaabong and Abim Districts, marking the end of his first round of campaign rallies in the Karamoja sub-region.

His message of reform and economic empowerment has resonated with many locals who say they are eager for change and a fair share of the region’s natural wealth.

“It’s time we benefit from our minerals. I’m going to vote Nandala Mafabi,” said Moses Nangiro, a resident of Nakapelimoru.
