Kira Municipality MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has scoffed at the Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) leadership that sacked him as the party chief whip in parliament saying he is not bothered.
“In fact I was waiting for this. Amuriat and Nandala have no right to sack me like they are purporting but also there is nothing in being the FDC chief whip in parliament. If they want it so much, I will give it to them but they didn’t have to sack me like they are purporting. My major responsibility is representing the people of Kira Municipality. They are already uncomfortable( with him being chief whip),” Ssemujju said on Tuesday afternoon.
The FDC Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi in an August, 7 letter sacked Ssemujju as chief whip and replaced him with Mawokota South MP, Yusuf Nsibambi.
The replacement takes immediate effect according to Mafabi.
Commenting about the sacking, Ssemujju said on Tuesday afternoon that what has happened was expected of the FDC leaders since they were uncomfortable with his popularity.
“This was just a matter of time because in our earlier meetings Amuriat told FDC MPs that Ssemujju Nganda was talking too much and he was causing you other MPs problems . It is just given that Museveni would tell him that I no longer want Ssemuju , he is causing me trouble,”Ssemujju said.
The former FDC chief whip also aimed a jibe at the party president whom he described as being incompetent.
“Amuriat has been son incompetent that he even fears competition from his own people. I think now he will become a very big leader that Ssemujju who has been disturbing him is no longer the whip.”
The latest developments come on the backdrop of continued deepening of the cracks within the once biggest opposition party.
A few weeks ago, a faction of FDC members led by Ssemujju accused the party leaders led by the president Patrick Amuriat and Secretary General Nandala Mafabi of having received money from President Museveni to fund the previous 2021 general elections, an allegation the two denied vehemently.
