Muslims recover property worth millions in Jinja

Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has recovered property worth millions in Jinja which were among those that were grabbed from the council many decades ago by unscrupulous people.

Among the properties recovered included, four acres of land comprising a school, a building housing a clinic and incomplete mosque structure whose foundation was laid by the late Saudi Arabian Monarch Faisal bin Abdulazziz Al Saud in 1973 accompanied by former President Idi Amin during his official visit.

While presiding over a thanksgiving ceremony organised by Jinja Muslim District led by the Kadhi Sheikh Ismail Adi Basoga, the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje said the recovered property is among the many Muslim properties grabbed from the council in Jinja city many decades ago.

Mubaje urged Jinja City authorities to help the Muslim body to recover the remaining properties illegally in the hands of individuals.

Mubaje recounted memories of his time as a learner of the lower Islamic theological studies under the tutorship of the late Sheikh Twarik of Pakistan descent.

He said he first operated from the recovered property before shifting to Bugembe, where Bugembe Islamic Institute is now located.

"We stayed here with the late Sheikh Twarik from 1974- 1979 well knowing that this is Muslim property long before some individuals grabbed it,"Mubaje recounted.

He also referenced the recent UMSC Court victory resulting from last year’s election of Prof Dr. Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira as the national UMSC chairperson.

"This time around UMSC is overhauling itself to bring on board qualified Muslims of high integrity who are capable of creating positive transformation programs. The hostile individuals heard in the media and behind the court cases, are the ones who lack pre- requisite qualifications and only thrive in confusion,” he said.

He asked parents to instil Islamic values and discipline in their children in order to guard them against vices like homosexuality acts.

Prof. Dr. Lubega revealed that his tenure (2022-2027) is earmarked as the period of development not of empty talk, intrigue and wrangles.

Sheikh Ismail Adi Basoga, the Kadhi of Jinja Muslim District, and Dr. Sheikh Hussein Muhammad Bowa, Mufti’s Regional Assistant to Busoga, read detailed reports on the state of affairs on Muslim activities under their jurisdiction.
