A group of over 250 NRM leaders from Serere district have petitioned the party Secretary General Richard Tadwong asking that the party considers giving the flag to Emmanuel Omoding, the son to the late MP Patrick Okabe in the Serere County by-election scheduled for next month.
Handing over the petition to the Director for Mobilization Rose Mary Sseninde, the delegation disclosed how the county has resolved to support the son of the late Patrick Okabe.
The chiefs from seven sub counties in their petition say that if NRM is to win the forthcoming by-election, the party flag should be handed to Okabe’s son.
The group said Okabe was the father of NRM in Serere and denying the son the flag will be a vote of no confidence in the late.
Asked on why the late Okabe lost the NRM party primaries to Philip Oucor, the group insisted that the deceased is more popular.
However, the NRM director for Rose Mary Sseninde told the group that the party constitution is clear that a flag bearer holds the flag for five years.
The by-election for Serere County will be held on February, 23 to replace Patrick Okabe who died last year in a road accident.
