Church of Uganda wants nursery schools regulated, monitored

The directorate of Education of Church of Uganda has upon government to put in place regulations to monitor pre-primary schools and also support those schools in terms of infrastructure, payment of teachers, and provision of teaching materials.

They made the call during a meeting with members of the Education Sector Review Commission yesterday.

Rev Paul Kakooza the director of Education Church of Uganda said the some caregivers in the Early Childhood Centres are inadequately trained despite them having a big task of handling young learners.

The church also recommended that government makes changes in the current arrangement of deploying teachers and deploy them at stations near their homes.

This, they said, will help solve the problem of teacher absenteeism which is rampant in some areas.

They asked government to consider partnerships in inspection of schools noting that some schools spend years without being inspected which affects their performance.

The Education Sector Review Commission chaired by former minister of Education Amanya Mushega was commissioned in 2021 to review the 1992 Education Policy and make further recommendations on improving the sector.
