NRM , FDC lock horns in Soroti

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and the opposition Forum for Democratic Change ( FDC)  will go head to head in final campaigns ahead of this week's Soroti East Member of Parliament (MP) by-election.

Soroti will on July, 28 go to polls to fill the vacant left after the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Forum for Democratic Change’s Moses Attan.

There is fanfare in town from both sides, and sound vans are making endless runs evoking wild chants and sloganeering.

On Sunday, FDC and opposition strongman, Dr.Kizza Besigye campaigned for the party flagbearer, Moses Attan.

Besigye who had earlier been blocked in Jinja from proceeding to Soroti later found his way to campaign for the FDC candidate .

Museveni joins campaigns

The ruling NRM party campaigns are later today expected to be rejuvenated by the arrival of the party national chairman, also President Museveni who will campaign for Herbert Ariko.

NRM's Herbert Ariko campaigns on Saturday.

Museveni is expected to address NRM leaders and party supporters at two venues in Soroti City later today.

Earlier, NRM top officials led by the Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Gen Jeje Odongo also campaigned for the party flagbearer.

However, leading opposition party, National Unity Platform has been said to have shunned the election.

Whereas the party announced it would rally behind FDC’s Attan, the party leaders have not been publicly seen campaigning for the fellow opposition candidate.
