Police investigating Bebe Cool’s shooting allegations, six arrested

Police has said they have started investigations into an incident between musician Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool and a UPDF officer, Captain Namara during which the musician claimed a gun was drawn.

The incident happened on June 19, in the parking yard of Peer lounge bar in Ntinda.

Police preliminary information indicates that the scuffle ensued after a minor accident as Bebe Cool was trying to get parking at the bar.

It is further indicated that in the process, the UPDF officer brushed against Bebe Cool’s vehicle which forced the latter to come out of the vehicle and a disagreement ensued thereafter.

On Sunday, through his social media platforms, the singer explained that the officer threatened to shoot him after knocking his car, but said they managed to disarm him and arrest him.

The Gagamel boss had further alleged that Namanya’s friends stormed the police station, held the officers at gun point before freeing their colleague.

Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire has noted that they have obtained the CCTV footage which they will use to establish the facts in Bebe Cool’s allegations.

“We have retrieved the CCTV footage and are reviewing the contents to establish whether a gun was drawn as alleged by Bebe Cool. We are also looking into the allegation of the physical exchange between the two parties which could have attracted other friends,”

Six arrested

Owoyesigyire added that police has since arrested six officers who allegedly responded and further escalated the situation at Ntinda Police station.

“They are currently detained at Railway Police. More updates will be availed in due course.” he said.

Following the development, the police mouthpiece cautioned drivers to always be extra careful while reacting to traffic incidents saying emotions can put one’s life in danger.
