Pilgrim dies with Namugongo 'too close'
A pilgrim from Rubirizi District has been pronounced dead following a ten-day of dedication to reach Namugongo Martyrs Shrine ahead of the 3rd June celebrations.
Jackeline Arinaitwe, 49 from Katokori Village, Katanda Sub County, in Rubirizi District collapsed and died just as the journey came to its near conclusion.

Arinaitwe was among Anglican pilgrims headed to the protestant shrine and was in a group of other 102 pilgrims from the West Ankole Diocese.
Rev. Benard Amujuni from West Ankole who led the group said they had walked for the last 10 days, unfortunately, one of their friends has died.
He said they have no confirmation of the cause of her death but they suspect she could have died from high blood pressure.
He confirmed that her body has been taken to Mulago hospital for Post-mortem.
This is one of the many incidences where pilgrims are losing lives while making a dedicated pilgrimage to celebrate the martyrs.
In 2019 Nonetheless, a commuter taxi knocked dead four Kenyan pilgrims and critically injured ten others along the Iganga-Tororo highway.
In 2017, a pregnant pilgrim, Scovia Moro from Lira Diocese collapsed and died around Matuga.
