Police in Kampala have started a manhunt for panga-wielding thugs who attacked several homes, cutting dead one person and robbing several others of property worth millions of shillings.

The incident happened in the wee hours of Saturday morning when thugs armed with pangas cut to death Yowasi Kasawuli, a resident of Namungoona Zone 1 Rubaga Division in Kampala City but also attacked and robbed Geoffrey Ssematimba, 33 and Godfrey Mwebaze, 34.

“The three victims were cut and in the process, robbed of unspecified amounts of cash and mobile phones. They were all rushed to different hospitals for treatment but unfortunately, Kasawali succumbed to the injuries,” Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said on Sunday morning.

“The injured persons are still recovering in different hospitals while the body of the deceased person was transferred to the city mortuary for postmortem.”

He noted that   the Police together with sister security agencies have intensified the hunt for the suspects and progress will be communicated respectively.

“The police at Old Kampala have scaled up patrols and community engagements on how to fight crimes in society.”

The attack comes several months without such incidents of panga-wielding attacks throughout the country.
