Photocopied documents now accepted during application for driving licence

The Uganda Driver Licensing System (UDLS) will now accept documents copies instead of the originals they had initially insisted on.

UDLS made the announcement on Twitter stating that going forward, those who seek driver’s licenses will not be required to present an original National Identity card if they can’t.

They also said that a verification letter from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).

“Previously, we required Ugandan applicants to come with either their original national ID or NIRA Verification Letter. Starting today, we are also accepting: a duplicate/copy of the national ID and a photocopy of the national ID,” a tweet from UDLS reads.

These also state that no bags will be allowed at the premises until further notice.

“Due to security reasons, customers visiting our facilities are advised to only carry necessary documents. No bags will be allowed inside UDLS premises until further notice. We thank you for your understanding.”

For one to obtain a driver’s license, they must meet the legal age criteria of 18 years or older and also get a license that allows them to learn how to drive. This is known as a learner license, is valid for three months, and is renewable at a cost. A learner license is required while you receive instruction from a driving school.
