Todwong preaches reconciliation as NRM seeks to broker peace deal between Nantaba, Karangwa in Kayunga

The NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong has asked the party leaders in Kayunga to play mature politics by ending their bickering and reconcile with each other in a bid to take forward the party.

“A leader who can’t forgive is not a good leader. A leader who can't allow to be advised is not a good leader. We all have weakness but if we accept to work together, the problems will be solved. Problems are everywhere, even in our families but the issue is the ability to solve them. We are sorry for the wrongs done in the past but now is the time for us to unite. The party needs unity and not divisions,”Todwong said.

The ruling party Secretary General was on Thursday speaking to NRM leaders from  Busaana and Kayunga Sub Counties as well as Kayunga and Busaana town councils at Namagabi Secondary School in Kayunga district.

The meeting was part of the party’s efforts to mend ties between the Kayunga NRM chairman, Moses Karangwa and his political rival , who also doubles as the district Woman MP, Idah Nantaba.

The rift has spilled into the public creating cliques and consequently seen the ruling party lose support in the district as each of the two sides has in the past been accused of supporting opposition candidates against their rivals.

Speaking on Thursday, Todwong said it is high time the two sworn enemies opened a new chapter that would see them reconcile but above all work for the people of Kayunga who need their services.

“Every political party has misunderstandings and small issues among its leaders but what matters is the ability to solve them.  We are here to encourage you to reconcile,” he said.

The NRM director for mobilization, Rosemary Sseninde emphasized the need for all warrying factions to come together noting that the new party leadership has come to change how things are done.

“This is a new chapter that we have opened. We will no longer wait for elections to come to speak to you. We want to see how to make the party more strong and popular in Kayunga. There have been infights between brothers and sisters which saw our support drop and we couldn’t sit in Kampala as matters deteriorate on the ground,”Sseninde said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting the NRM chairman for Kayunga district, Moses Karangwa acknowledged the infights but said it is high time they unite for the benefit of the party.

“As NRM leaders, we had some issues in the past but now we have agreed to work together. We believe this time by coming together, we can take forward the party. My message to her(Nantaba) is that we are now one person supporting the NRM and President Museveni. We should walk the same line to ensure we galvanize support for our party,”Karangwa said.

However, Nantaba didn’t attend the meeting over unknown reasons.

It remains to be seen if the efforts by the top leadership of the ruling party will help end the standoff between the two giants of Kayunga district which was once an NRM stronghold but has fallen to the opposition partly because of the infights.
