Dr.Diana Atwine makes case for digitization of health sector

The Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr. Diana Atwiine has said that automation and digitization of the health sector will help deal with the problems that the sector faces.

“Challenges by our health system will be solved by this much needed smarter process, and therefore this system is not optional,”Atwine said.

"Help me transform the sector. This is my dream; this is the dream of our country, to have better services for all. We must therefore put a new performance target with evidence based tangible results.”

Dr.Atwine was meeting with the team from the Integrated Intelligent Computer System(IICS) that is implementing the automated  integrated Health Monitoring System (iHMIS).

IHMIS, under Ministry of ICT and National Guidance is an initiative intended to automate and digitize the health system.

It monitors timely interface with hospital administrators and other users as well as tracking attendance, monitoring drug stocks and patient-doctor consultation time

The system also alerts the hospital management on key issues as expiry of drugs or requisition of new stock while enforcing accountability-among others.

The system has since been deployed in 10 regional hospitals including Moroto,, Soroti, Gulu, Hoima, Fort Portal, Mbarara, Kabale, Masaka, and Naguru China-Uganda Friendship Hospital.
