The Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced the countrywide stakeholder consultative meetings to evaluate the conduct of the 2021 general elections.
The meetings will be conducted at the city/district level from September 6 to 18 and will evaluate the successes and challenges identified during the general elections.
The participants include representatives of political parties, local government, security agencies, civil society organisations, special interest groups and the media.
Other stakeholders have availed the option of evaluating the elections using an online questionnaire.
Paul Bukenya, the EC spokesperson said the 2021 general elections were remarkable as they were held amidst peculiar challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said their successful conduct and conclusion, leading to the election of leaders from diverse political backgrounds, at presidential, parliamentary and local government council levels, is testimony to the strong and determined spirit of Ugandans to pursue peaceful and democratic means of determining leaders.
Bukenya said that due to the measures to combat and prevent the spread of Covid-19, the evaluation meetings will have limited physical attendance.
