FDC: If gov't pacified Somalia why has it failed to deal with Masaka murders?

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has said given the fact that Uganda has managed to pacify some countries in Africa, it is baffling that it has failed to resolve the machete aided murders in the greater Masaka region.

The machete wielding murderers have so far killed 26 people in the past six weeks in the greater Masaka region.

Speaking to the media in Kampala, FDC deputy spokesperson, John Kikonyogo said government failure to deal with the ongoing murders in the country is not because of incompetence but lack of commitment.

"The people in power are failing to contain the situation which I think it should not have been as big as the issues we have handled elsewhere. You are aware Uganda is contributing forces to other countries. The good example I can give is Central African Republic and Somalia. The rebels there were even using pangas but our forces have managed to contain them,"he said.

Kikonyogo advised government to invest more money in intelligence rather only depending on police and the army patrolling the area.

"Whenever there is an issue, the first thing the government thinks of is deploying the money, deploying the police. The people who would have done better jobs according to us are the people of intelligence. We can’t deploy without intelligence first. We have tendency of late in Uganda of trying to use a lot of force as opposed to using our brains," he said.

President Museveni and other government officials have linked the murders to Masaka to terrorism. Museveni also claimed that some of the perpetrators of these acts are being used by "negative political forces."
