Judge okays negotiations to settle case challenging  NUP’s Aloysius Mukasa election out of court

Lady Justice Dr. Winfred Nabisinde has allowed more time to parties to continue negotiations with a view of settling the case in which DP’s Eugenia Nassolo’s challenging Aloysius Mukasa election as Lubaga South MP out of court.

Last week, when the case came up for hearing, Nassolo’s lawyers told court that negotiations between the two parties were still ongoing and asked for more time.

“Both parties are still talking but have not yet reached any agreement because talking is not easy .There are still many emotions,” lawyer Kenneth Paul Kakande said last week.

On Monday, when the case returned to court for hearing, the lawyers again asked for two more weeks so the parties could finalise some important issues.

Speaking in response, the presiding judge reasoned with the lawyers and accepted to adjourn the case since it is in interest of justice.

Justice Nabisinde adjourned the matter until September, 2, 2021.

Petition

The runners up in the January 14 polls for Lubaga South constituency, Eugenia Nassolo challenged Aloysius Mukasa’s win saying he bribed voters with facemasks, soap, sugar and matooke as well as lacking the requisite academic documents to enable him stand as a Member of Parliament.
