Chief Magistrate Kamasanyu attackers arrested, linked to violent robbery caught on CCTV camera in Kampala

The Police Crime Intelligence Directorate has arrested a man suspected to be the leader of the gang that attacked Buganda Road Standards Court Chief Magistrate, Gladys Kamasanyu.

Last month, Kamasanyu was attacked by assailants outside the Green Hill Academy school gate as she picked the PLE results for her child and during the incident, the magistrate was kicked hard and she hit the ground before her bag and phone among other valuables were stolen.

On Monday, the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said the leader of the gang, identified as Brian Mulinzi was tracked and arrested from Mbale, over 197 kilometres away from Kampala where the incident happened.

Despite being elusive for a while, we were able to use our advanced technology to track down the gang leader who was found hiding in Mbale district,” Enanga said.

A motorcycle that was among those captured on CCTV during last month’s attack on the chief magistrate was later recovered in Buloba after leads by the suspect.

According to Police, Mulinzi confessed that he was connected to some of the suspects arrested recently over the violent robbery caught on CCTV camera in Kampala in which an Indian was robbed of shs5 million.

“He said he was part of the gang that robs the public using boda bodas. They follow people from ATM machines, businessmen including Chinese and Indians. It is the same gang that followed Chief Magistrate Kamasanyu,”Enanga said.
