KCCA FC’s Steven Sserwadda joins New York Red Bulls

Lugogo based KCCA FC has confirmed the release of midfielder Steven Sserwadda to join Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls.

“We hereby confirm that we have finalised an agreement for the transfer of Steven Sserwadda to New York Red Bulls on an undisclosed permanent transfer,” KCCA FC said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

The 13-time Uganda Premier League champions said they will have a 10% revenue from any future sales outside the Major League Soccer for the 18-year-old midfielder who was one of the youngsters that former coach Mike Mutebi brought to the team in 2015.

“Everyone at KCCA Football Club would like to thank Steven Sserwada for his contribution made during his time as a Kasasiro Boy and wish him the very best for his future.”

Sserwadda has a CECAFA Clubs cup, Uganda Premier League, two Supers Cups and appearances in Caf Confederation and Champions League to his name while at KCCA FC.

It is said that former Cranes captain Ibrahim Ssekagya who is an assistant coach at New York Red Bulls contributed greatly to Sserwadda’s move to the Major League Soccer outfit.

Sserwadda was part of Uganda’s u-20 team that reached the AFCON finals in Mauritania.

Despite losing the finals to Ghana, the Hippos made history by reaching finals during their first time to appear in the tournament but also, the team had a stellar performance throughout the tournament.

Consequently, Sserwadda was among those who performed well during the tournament, having scored two goals.

He now joins his former KCCA FC teammate, Mustafa Kizza to play in the Major League Soccer.

Kizza plays for CF Montreal.
