Museveni to address country as lockdown comes to end

President Museveni will on Saturday address the country about the next course of action after the elapse of the 42 days lockdown aimed at curbing the rising cases of the deadly virus.

“President Museveni will address the nation this Saturday, July, 31, 2021 at 8pm on Covid-19 and any other related issues. The address will be live on all television and radio stations,” Presidential Press Secretary, Linda Nabusayi said on Tuesday morning.

The National Planning Authority (NPA) recently said there will not be a third Coronavirus wave according to its weekly projections of the deadly virus.

The president is therefore expected to announce the easing of the lockdown and reopening of the economy which has been hit hard by the Covid-induced lockdown.

During the address, President Museveni is also expected to update the country of efforts to ensure at least 80% of the targeted population is vaccinated in order to be safe.

As of July, 24, 2021, a total of 1.1 million doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered.

The Ministry of Health recently said that they are expecting the arrival of  Astra Zeneca and Sinovac vaccine doses on July 30 and 31 respectively into the country to bolster vaccination efforts.

As of July 24, Uganda had registered a cumulative of  92724 Covid cases with 2579 deaths and 77171 recoveries since March 2020 when the first cases was registered in the country.
