Jinja records 100 Covid-19 cases in single day

The Jinja Covid-19 task force is worried about the increasing number of Covid-19 cases after the district recorded positive 100 positive cases on Tuesday (June 22).

This has prompted the district task force to take tough measures including blocking all the people from accessing the city centre as a deterrent measure to prevent the spread of the infectious disease.

"Out of the 430 samples tested, 100 tested positive, bringing the total number of positive cases [in the district] to 482," said Richard Luvaluka, the Covid-19 focal person in the district.

He said 33 patients are critically ill and are receiving treatment from Jinja regional referral hospital while others are undergoing home based care.

The district has also recorded six deaths including two who were on home based care over the past couple of days.

Jinja Resident district commissioner Deborah Mwesigwa revealed that due to the increasing cases of Covid-19, Jinja regional referral hospital isolation centre is full, hence they cannot admit any more patients.

Authorities say similar operations shall continue until the 42 days of lockdown elapse as directed by the President.
