Govt warns public against  web link promising Covid relief cash in 24 hours

Government has asked members of the public to beware of a web link promising to dish out Covid relief cash within 24 hours.

The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja on Sunday said government will this time round not be distributing food relief but rather use mobile money to deliver cash to vulnerable people who are affected by the second lockdown.

Following the news, different social media platforms have been awash with a link asking members of the public to open so that they can get the cash within 24 hours.

“First-time applicants receive payments within 24 hours after approval... It takes few seconds to apply. Don't miss this hurry now,” the link, making rounds on social media read in part.

However, in a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Gender distanced itself from the link saying it is a hoax.

“This notice serves to caution the general public against that scheme. The Ministry of Gender under the national multi-sectoral Covid taskforce chaired by Rt Hon Prime Minister is finalizing the process of identification of categories of persons that will be considered for government support and will soon advise the public accordingly,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Gender however asked members of the public to wait for official communication from government over the matter.
