As Covid-19 cases surge and strain the health system, UMC Victoria Hospital in Bukoto has reserved free beds for healthcare workers and reduced on Covid-19 treatment charges.
According to Dr Edrine Juuko, the medical director of the hospital, Covid-19 patients who will be admitted at the hospital’s annex wing will be charged between Shs 400,000 and Shs 600,000 a day.
The move by the hospital to reduce charges will be welcomed by members of the public who have complained about the exorbitant fees charged by some private medical facilities to access Covid-19 treatment.
“As a hospital we have opened a low cost unit annex wing which at the site formerly occupied by Kadic hospital. The wing will handle exclusively Covid-19 cases,” Juuko said.
He said that health workers recommended by the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) will not be charged for bed and food in the beds reserved for them.
