Outgoing Jinja West MP Moses Balyeku has denied any involvement in the Busoga parliamentary group cash saga in which huge sums of money have gone missing.
It has been reported that whereas Busoga Parliamentary Forum members make monthly contributions to a fund intended to facilitate activities of the forum and support members in times of need, the money has gone missing from the group’s Tropical Bank account.
The reports had pointed fingers at Balyeku.
However, in a statement through his lawyers of Galisonga & Co. Advocates, the outgoing Jinja West legislator denied any involvement in the saga.
“It is true; members of the Busoga Parliamentary Forum make monthly contributions to a fund and we wish to clarify that when the said reports on social media started circulating, our client was compelled to procure the bank statements from the bank and peruse the same and has since discovered that the said monies have been withdrawn variously by the caucus treasurer Hon. Mukoda Julie and the Secretary General Hon. Naigaga Mariam, every time a transfer was effected by Parliament on to the forum’s account,”Balyeku said in the statement.
“Our Client has never authorized any abuse of those funds in all the said transactions, as he never signed on any cheques authorizing the withdraws of funds.”
Balyeku insisted that he has no hand in the missing shs24o million as reported by a section of the media.
According to Balyeku, steps are going to be taken soon together with other executive members to investigate the matter and come up with findings.
He also denied reports that he is under arrest over the matter.
