The presiding Bishop for the Evangelical Orthodox Church (EOC) in Uganda, Jacinto Kibuuka has warned deacons against exploiting believers but also staging miracles.
“You have been chosen to serve people on God’s behalf at no cost. Don’t turn into crooks like other religious leaders who have made it a habit to exploit followers of God. For us we don’t work for money or salary. Don’t stage miracles. Only work for God and once you deviate into those habits, I will not hesitate to expel you. We only get the presence and power of God from the Bible and the Holy Eucharist,” Kibuuka said.
He was on Sunday speaking as he ordained four new deacons at a function held at the Mamre International Prayer Centre in Namugongo.
Kibuuka told the new deacons from Kibuku, Kyenjojo, Kiryandongo and Moyo districts that they should at all times move in line with what God wants.
“Don’t be crooks by stealing from people. God has chosen you to be His faithful servants, so go spread His good news. Go and cast out demons and all evil spirits in Jesus’s name. Go plant and build God’s kingdom in just and truthfulness. You shouldn’t solicit money from people in order to serve them on God’s behalf,” he warned.
Bishop Kibuuka urged the new deacons to always work for God and not deviating in any way.
Speaking about the Evangelical Orthodox Church in Uganda, Kibuuka said they now have over 70 churches all over the country, adding that more are soon coming up.
Preaching about Mother’s day which was celebrated on Sunday, Kibuuka praised mothers whom he said are the light of the world, but warned women against abortion noting that it is against Jesus’ preachings.
