We need more funds to promote Uganda's image abroad, says minister Ogwang

The minister of state for ICT, Peter Ogwang has said that it is time for the government to invest more funds in his ministry for improve and promote Uganda's image both internally and externally.

For the past few years,Uganda's image has been deteriorating due to a number of issues including alleged abductions and kidnappings by Ugandan security operatives during and after the 2021 general election.

Speaking during NBS'S Face-off Show on Sunday, Ogwang said that their ministry is under funded making it difficult to do certain things that can promote the good image of the country.

"If you look at the national budget, the ministry of ICT is the least funded. The earlier we begin to invest in my sector, the better for the promotion of Uganda's image, both internally and externally,"he said.

He explained that although they have been working with the Government Citizens Interaction Center, they have experienced budgetary constraints.

"Now that it has been shifted to be under State House, we expect a lot more from that unit,"he said.

Ogwang appealed to the media to help sensitise the country about the Covid-19 vaccine.

"As a government, we are going ahead with a plan of procuring 2.1 million doses to make sure that everybody who falls in the category of those who can be vaccinated for Covid-19 is vaccinated,"he said.

He stated that what is happening in India should be a lesson to other countries including Uganda that the situation is getting out of hand.

"If you fall in the category of those supposed to get the Covid-19 jab, go and get it. We were doing well as a country in terms of management of the pandemic but unfortunately, the citizens are now ignoring the Standard Operating Procedures,"he said.
