Seven schools shut down for failure to adhere to SOPs; Others ordered to allow pregnant girls study

Coronavirus outbreak

At least seven schools in Budaka district will remain closed today after failing to meet the Covid 19 Standard Operating Procedures.

According to Mr. Paul Higenyi the District Education Officer, most of the affected schools are privately owned.

Without divulging details of the effected schools Mr.Higenyi said during their routine inspection exercise last week they found that though all government-aided schools had met the required SOPs majority of Private schools did not.

He said they have given the affected schools an oneweek grace period to put in place what's required or else parents will be advised to relocate their children to schools that meet the standard.

He further advised parents and school heads to allow pregnant girls to study.

However, there were some reports that some schools heads in the district were chasing away pupils who had not reported with money for feeding, an allegation the DEO says it's unfounded.

"I have not got that information yet, but if its there one can be punished"

Budaka district has 59 government aided school's, 13 private schools which are registered.
