Minister Ogwang: "I am not involved in the chaos in Katakwi district"

The state minister for ICT and National Guidance, Peter Ogwang, has said that his name has been unfairly dragged into the current ugly situation in Katakwi district where violence broke out between supporters of Viola Akurut and her rival, Jessica Alupo.

This followed a decision to conduct fresh elections in the sub county of Okore for Katakwi Woman MP seat.

"I would like to categorically state that I last participated in election related activities on September 4th and I am not in anyway involved in the chaos or violence in Katakwi district,"Ogwang said I'm a statement.

"I am in Kampala carrying out my official duties and preparing for my nominations for Ngariam county seat. I therefore have no interest in whatever is happening in the woman MP race especially in Okore sub county where I am not even a voter,"he added.

Ogwang said he has seen grisly photos on social media of injured people who have been hacked following the violence that erupted in Okore.

Ogwang said he strongly condemns the violence in whatever form asking government to investigate perpetrators of such actions and whoever is found guilty should be prosecuted.

"I have been informed that the ambulance that I donated to the people of my constituency was sighted at the scene of violence. Indeed, I contacted the driver of the ambulance who told me he had gone to pick a patient at Ngariam Health centre III," he said.

Ogwang said he directed the driver to park the Ambulance at the district hospital and desist from using it for any political activity.

"In a nutshell, I ask the people of Okore to stay calm and peaceful as they conduct the exercise tomorrow. On the same note, I am asking my brother and political rival who lost in the NRM elections, to stop circulating unfounded propaganda on my personality,"said Ogwang.
