The low internet penetration and people’s mindset about online studying are major challenges hindering adoption of virtual education system in Uganda and Africa at large.

According to the vice chancellor of Nexus international university Prof. Magnus Amajirionwa, the internet penetration is still low in Uganda at 40% due to high internet costs, saying this must be addressed to promote online learning since it’s now a new normal.

Magnus added that there also a need to change people’s minds regarding online studying, saying many don’t believe in it.

He said this launching their upgraded learning management system dubbed “Akili education website”.

The Akili learning management system can now take up to 10,000 students in a live lecture, and is expandable to accommodate up to 100,000 within a period of one month or less.
