Police in Kawanda, Wakiso district has arrested three of its own officers to help in investigations into circumstances under which suspects escaped from cells.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened on Saturday morning when three suspects escaped from Kawanda police post.
“The incident happened at around 2:30am when the three suspects took pushed the window in the cells until it broke and they jumped out,”Owoyesigyire said.
The police spokesperson named the three suspects as Siraj Tumusiime who had been arrested on aggravated defilement charges, Micah and Moses Atim, both arrested on charges of robbery.
He noted that the three will face more charges related to escaping from lawful custody and that the hunt for them has kicked off.
“Three officers who were on duty that particular time have since been arrested and allegations of neglect of duty are being investigated. They are yet to be arraigned in courts of law,”Owoyesigyire said.
