Bryan White's NGO deregistered

Bryan White Foundation which was founded by socialite Bryan White has been deregistered by the National Bureau of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO Bureau).

This was announced by Patrick Onen, a senior communications officer of the NGO Bureau, while addressing the press on Friday.

According to Onen, the Bryan White Foundation was registered in January 2019 as a company limited by guarantee with a board of directors yet Brian White was solely running the organisation.

Onen said: "Bryan White Foundation has no known physical address and all the functions it was licensed to perform like taking care of orphans, widows and supporting youth were never performed."

Onen added that Bryan White's Foundation also had no significant transactions on its known bank account.

Early this year, Parliament through the human rights committee wrote to the NGO Bureau listing sexual harassment claims that Bryan White allegedly committed against girls that he had promised jobs in his foundation.

Onen said that they immediately launched investigations into the matter and tasked Bryan White to file his defence, something he failed to do.

Isaac Katende, also known as Kasuku who works as the spokesperson of Bryan White Foundation told NBS Television in a separate interview that Bryan White is sick but he will explain everything when he gets better.

"I can't say much about it. Brian will tell you everything you need to know when he gets better," Kasuku said.

Meanwhile, another NGO ,Give Directly incorporated in the US, has been also suspended pending investigations into what the bureau called suspicious operations.

The bureau received concerns from different stakeholders regarding the mode of operations of Give Directly(GD) and instituted investigations into its activities and operations.

"All NGOs are required to enter into Memoranda of Understanding with the target districts of operation prior to commencement of their operations. Give Directly only got a recommendation letter from Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development,"he said.
