Kibalama is a crook- Bobi

2021 Elections Watch

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has lambasted Moses Nkonge Kibalama, the man who handed the party to him, calling him a shady character and compromised.

Bobi Wine’s comments are carried in a letter dated September 17, 2020, in which he replies to comments by Kibalama where the latter claimed he was promised air and wants his party back.

“This is yet another attempt by Gen Museveni’s regime to derail our progress in the struggle for freedom and democracy,” Bobi claims.

He says that for days now, the phone numbers of Kibalama have been off, while that of his colleague Paul Ssimbwa has been on and off and when off, a person claiming to be a soldier picks the phone and says Ssimbwa is under detention.

Bobi accuses KIbalama and Ssimbwa od turning their back on them, when during a court process this week, the duo swore different affidavits to outdo earlier affidavits sworn by themselves.

“to show how shabby the characters who rule over us are, Kibalama who has appeared on TV several times confirming the legality of everything we did to change the party leadership, was now writing that we never followed the law! They desperately wanted an injunction to stop our party activities, but the judge refused.”

It should be noted that the High Court in Kampala this week dismissed an application in which two people were seeking to block the nomination by the Electoral Commission of all candidates from the National Unity Platform from participating in the forthcoming elections.

In August, Basile Difas and Hassan Twaha dragged Moses Nkonge Kibalama, the founding leader of National Unity Reconciliation and Development Party-NURP, and ten others to court for selling the party without authorization to Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine, and the name was changed to the National Unity Platform.

The group ran to court seeking a temporary injunction blocking the nomination of all NUP candidates by the Electoral Commission pending the disposal of the main case challenging the sale of the party.

However, on Tuesday, Justice Musa Ssekaana said he could not block the nomination of NUP candidates as this would see the party members suffer irreparable losses in case the main case goes into their favor.

Regarding the allegation that Kibalama was promised $5m (shs18b) by Bobi wine and team, Bobi claims it is “very shameful”

“Treat it with all the contempt it deserves,” he added.

Bobi now claims Kibalama is compromised to the extent that he is being guarded by UPDF personnel.

Indications are that now Kibalama whose house is guarded by UPDF has been compromised and coerced into disowning us and claiming that whatever was done was illegal,” Bobi rattled.

“We are aware that the regime has tried to portray us as people who get lots of money from foreigners! Gen Museveni must understand that Ugandans are not fools, they know our struggles as we know theirs. We are told that their next plant lots of money (in dollars) and weapons in some houses of our comrades so as to follow through with these lies! That too will fail,” he said.
