Two bodies recovered from Nakivubo channel in city centre after heavy downpour

Police have recovered two dead bodies along Nakivubo Channel at Clock Tower near Total fuel station after Friday’s heavy downpour.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the two bodies were carried by flood water from different places before they were recovered at Clock Tower in the city centre.

“The first body to be retrieved was of a female juvenile aged 12 years, identified as Namazzi Alyera, a resident of Nsambya Kitooro, Makindye Division, Kampala Capital City. Its alleged that Namazzi was playing with her friends during the rain and their ball fell in the trench,” Onyango said.

The Kampala Police mouthpiece explained that when the 12-year-old tried to remove the ball from the trench, she was overpowered by water and later swept away.

The body was later recovered from Nakivubo channel at Clock Tower where the trench pours its waters after a boda boda rider saw it and informed police.

She tried to remove the ball, but the water overpowered her and swept her away.

While still carrying on their work of retrieving the young girl’s body, another body appeared and it was also removed from the water. The body was not identified but it is of a male adult,” Onyango said.

He however urged members of the public to always be cautious during the rainy season to avoid such incidents.
