The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson Tanga Odoi, has declared Jenipher Muheesi Abaho the winner of the Kazo woman MP race, breaking a week-long impasse.
According to the declaration form released by Tanga, Muheesi obtained 16,802 votes, breaking away slightly from 16,715 votes which were garnered by her closest competitor and former PPS of President Museveni, Molly Kamukama.
Earlier, Kamukama came out to claim she is the winner of the hotly contested Kazo Woman Member of Parliament Primaries.
The primaries had happened on September 4th and successfully failed to produced a winner as each camp claimed victory.
“Numbers don’t lie. The Declaration Forms in my possession put us in a comfortable lead and we are only awaiting official communication from the electoral commission. Thank you all for the kind support,” Kamukama said.
“Despite an attack on the tally center by one of my opponents and hired goons, I wish to inform all my supporters that I am firmly in the lead to win the NRM flag bearer position for Kazo Women MP. I urge you keep calm and await official communication,” she added.
According to reports from Kazo, Muheesi was in the lead early on with Anne Ruyondo Lumumba and Molly Kamukama breathing down her neck.
However, before the announcement of results, a section of voters attacked the tally centre, tore declaration forms and an unknown person vanished with the laptop belonging to the Electoral Commission officials.
The laptop had been used to compile the results which would be used to announce the valid winner of the poll.
