President Museveni who is also the NRM national chairman has named a 23- man team to oversee the forthcoming election within the ruling party.

According to a document seen by the Nile Post, the team of top party officials has been deployed in several parts of the country to oversee the elections to avert any violence as witnessed in the elections to choose party parliament flagbearers.

The team

The team appointed by Museveni has party Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba, Treasurer, Rose Namayanja Nsereko, John Arimpa kigygi and Charles Egou in charge of central Uganda.

Others appointed include Dr.Tanga odoi(Ankole region), Mike Ssebalu and Jane Babiiha Alisemera(Kampala and Wakiso),Mathias Kasamba(Greater Masaka), Anthony Iga(Greater Mubende and Mpigi) whereas Juliet Kabonesa will be in charge of greater Mukono region.

Other party officials appointed include Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora affairs, Hajji Abbey Walusimbi who will be in charge of greater Luweero region whereas Col.Shaban Bantariza(Busoga region), Emmanuel Dombo(Teso region) and Richard Todwong (Acholi region).

This website has also learnt that the team will be in charge of ensuring the elections are free from any chaos and violence as witnessed in the previous election.

When contacted for a comment on the matter, the NRM Director for Information and publicity, Emmanuel Dombo, who is also part of the team confirmed the development but said he would get full details of the team’s work later.

Violence

The ruling NRM party used lining up behind candidates for the first time since being adopted by the party’s top organs early this year but the primaries held on Friday to elect the party’s parliamentary flagbearers was characterized by several incidents of chaos and violence.

Speaking about the chaos that charaterised the party primaries last week, President Museveni said the game is finished for party members who were involved in creating the violence.

“There was violence in a constituency called Bukono where 12 people were beaten and cut with pangas. I got information that police had not done much work. I told IGP that if police didn’t do the work, I will do it for them by arresting them first and then bring the rest myself. I have the capacity to do it,” Museveni said.

He wondered how some of the suspects in the matter had been arrested and released on police bond, noting that it is appalling.

“There will be no police bond for anybody who has attacked Ugandans. You alter results we arrest you in forgery. The stupid policeman who doesn’t know how to use gun will go to jail for man slaughter. The ones threatening people will also go to jail. The one who beat people will also go to jail.”

“All those who have made a fool of themselves will go to jail. If we find that you changed results, you will be charged with forgery. This game is finished. If you try to change declaration forms, the villages are available. Once there is any suspicion, we shall go to the village, check and go for you Instead of going to parliament you will go to jail for committing forgery,” Museveni threatened.
