Bududa: Body of UWA officer found floating in Ulukusi River

A Uganda Wildlife Authority officer attached to Ulukusi station in Mt Elgon National park in Bumayoka sub county Bududa district was yesterday found dead with his body floating in Ulukusi river, three days after he went missing.

The body of Pt Francis Wekomba who has been the in-charge Ulukusi station was found floating river Ulukusi after police and the local community mounted a search for him. His gun is yet to be found.

According to Peter Wakaale the eye witness, he last saw Wekomba at a bar in Shibanga trading centre on September 6.

He was told not to go back to the station since he looked drunk and it had rained but he insisted that he knew the path very well.

"It is still not known whether he drowned or he was killed and the body thrown into the river “Said the eye witness.

Emma Shison, another eye witness said the incident happened at the time when the deceased had warned some residents in the area against encroaching on forest land.

Moses Shibuya the GISO Bumayoka sub county said as authorities in the sub county are still tracing those who had last been seen with the deceased to get credible statements to guide them on what exactly could have happened.

He asked UWA officers to desist from drinking till late in the night.
