Minister of State for Tourism and National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Central Region on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) Godfrey Kiwanda has withdrawn his candidature from the Mityana North Member of Parliament race.
Kiwanda announced he was quitting in a tearful address in his constituency.
Earlier, NRM chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa had informed Kiwanda’s supporters that the latter would not seek reelection.
Nankabirwa told Kiwanda’s supporters that the MP would officially seek to concentrate on serving NRM through CEC.
Nile Post has contacted both Kiwanda and Nankabirwa but our calls have not been replied.
Dan Mbidde, a supporter of Kiwanda condemned the decision by his candidate saying that he would now support any candidate on people power ticket.
“I will now take back my card to NRM and support people power. They have betrayed me,” Mbidde said.
Another supporter Kiytikyamuwesi Vincent also said he was unhappy with Kiwanda’s decision.
“It is not good for Kiwanda to tell us to support another candidate. I will not do that. There is too much drama in NRM and I will support People Power,”
Kiwanda is said to have endorsed his rival Kibedi Nsi Egumire who now expects to run unopposed on the NRM ticket.
Kibedi has also not picked numerous calls from Nile Post
