KCCA FC striker arrested for “kidnapping” 3 girls

Police in Kampala has arrested Kampala Capital City Authority Nigerian striker, John Odemwegu over what has been termed as unlawful confinement of three girls in his house.

According to Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the incident happened over the weekend when Jinja road police responded to an incident after the 25-year-old footballer had unlawfully confined three MUBS students at his home in Mutungo Bbiina.

“He had invited his girlfriend who came in the company of two other friends at his rented home. At around 9pm, the girls asked to leave but he refused and confiscated their phones,”Enanga said.

“He confined them in his house for 10 hours from 9 pm to 7 am the following day. Two of their phones were grabbed and switched off  while the third phone went unanswered.”

The Police mouthpiece identified the three victims as Grace Nakibuuka, Margret Namutebi and Joan Mirembe, all students at Makerere University Business School(MUBS) in Nakawa.

He said on interrogation, the Nigerian footballer claimed he feared to release the three girls at night but also accused his girlfriend whom he had known for five days of dating other men.

“This highlights the hidden reality of many young women’s relationships and a stark reminder of how young adults are vulnerable and need to be more mindful about their security,” he noted.

Enanga, however, noted that Odemwegu’s file has been forwarded to the resident state attorney and any time from now, he will be arraigned before the Nakawa Magistrates court.

About Odemwegu

The 25 -year- old Nigerian forward joined the Uganda Premier League defending champions this season from Nigerian top division side Rivers United.

He has, however, failed to impress at Lugogo as the shoes left behind by Patrick Kaddu seem to be too big for the Nigerian international.
