Museveni gives Ebonies Shs 100m

President Museveni has given Shs100m as a contribution to the activities of Uganda’s versatile dram group, the Ebonies.

Museveni was attending an event to mark 33 years of stage and TV presence for Ebonies director Sam Bagenda alias Dr. Bbosa at Theatre Labonita in Kampala.

Speaking to an excited audience, President Museveni said he was impressed by Dr. Bbosa whom he had watched for quite some time.

“I am very happy to be here. I have not experienced this kind of life for the last 65 years. I have watched Dr. Bbosa since a long time ago. He has used his talent to serve Ugandans with ushered in peace,” Museveni said.

He called upon Ugandans to utilise the peace by the NRM government to exhibit their talents like Dr. Bbosa.

“With peace ushered in by the NRM, people are bound to exhibit talents in all aspects; Preachers will preach, actors will act, artistes will compose and sing, farmers will flourish in fields, herders will tend, everyone will get chance to showcase their God-given talent. That should be the spirit,” he added.

The President then revealed he had never been to Labonita despite being in his neighborhood from Nakasero state lodge.

“I must say I have not been here before, now that I have come, I want to support you with Shs100m. The money will be brought here tomorrow and given to you,” Museveni said to ululation and cheers.

On his part, Dr. Bbosa said he was very humbled to have the president as a guest on his maiden show.

“My daughter has been laughing at me because she shook the president’s hand sometime back. She joked that at her age she had already shaken his hands yet at my age I was not even close. Today I am happy and I will go brag to her that I was in the President’s presence for hours,” he said.

Dr. Bbosa was marking 33 years of his existence on TV and stage.
